What is a Certified Nurse Midwife?

A Certified Nurse Midwife is an independent licensed healthcare professional who specializes in women’s reproductive health and childbirth. In addition to attending births, they perform annual exams, give contraceptive counseling, perform minor office procedures, repair any lacerations as a result of birth, assist in performing cesarean birth, and write prescriptions. All Certified Nurse Midwives are considered advanced nurse practitioners who have both a nursing degree and a Masters of Science in Midwifery. This means they are uniquely qualified to provide the extra care women need when they are expecting and throughout the lifespan. They usually work in collaboration with physicians and other professionals to provide the best care for women.
The term “midwife” comes from Old English and means “with woman.” Midwives have helped women give birth since the beginning of time.

Why should I choose a Nurse Midwife to guide me through my pregnancy?

Why not? Midwives are known for their support, caring, knowledge, and clinical expertise. They pride themselves on taking to get to know you and your partner. They walk you through your entire experience. Midwives are known for their lower intervention, cesarean, and induction of labor rates. They strive to tailor your birth experience to your specific needs all while ensuring the safety of you and your baby. Certified Nurse Midwives bridge the gap between traditional birth practices and modern medicine. You get the best of both worlds.
