About Us

What is a Certified Nurse Midwife?

A Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is an independent licensed healthcare professional who specializes in women’s reproductive health and childbirth. In addition to attending births, they perform annual exams, give contraceptive counseling, perform minor office procedures, repair any lacerations as a result of birth, assist in performing cesarean birth, and write prescriptions.

All CNMs are considered advanced nurse practitioners who have both a nursing degree and a Masters of Science in Midwifery. This means they are uniquely qualified to provide the extra care women need when they are expecting and throughout their lifespan. They usually work in collaboration with physicians and other professionals to provide the best care for women.

Our Story

My motivation to co-found this company, Ask A Nurse Midwife, came from a co-worker, Mitra Davis. She inspired me to branch out with her as a team. We have taught classes together for years and we both know that there is more to offer. A broader list of classes, personalized education, and better education. Find those gaps and fill them in. She is one of my closest friends and now we are like family.

Together we feel we can help where obstetric care is lacking, in education. There are many ways to achieve a happy, satisfied, safe birth experience.

Early in my career, I recognized a void in pregnancy care and education.  The gap existed between traditional knowledge and cutting-edge medicine; to advise, educate, and support women before, during, and after childbirth.  I wanted to create a platform where couples could receive unbiased, nonjudgmental education to make the right decisions.

Kristy Bedell shares my passion for women’s health.  I have great respect and appreciation for her clinical knowledge. There is no better person for me to share this platform with than Kristy.

The term “midwife” comes from Old English and means “with woman.” Midwives have helped women give birth since the beginning of time.
